If you are looking at your tattoo and wondering whether a small area needs another look, the best first step is to send your artist a clear photograph. That gives them a starting point for deciding whether you need a touch-up, a different appointment or simply a conversation about the result.
At The Viper Pit in Irlam, a touch-up booking is for eligible work originally completed by our studio and must be approved by your artist. It is different from adding new details or changing the design. Here is how to explain what you want before choosing an appointment.
What is a tattoo touch-up?
Our live booking description covers small areas that have healed lighter than expected. The artist assesses the actual tattoo and the area you are asking about before confirming whether the touch-up service is appropriate.
It is not an automatic extra session attached to every tattoo. If you are unsure, get in touch with the original artist rather than booking a free appointment and assuming the whole piece will be worked over.
What counts as a design change?
Adding a name, extending a background, making the tattoo larger or introducing another subject changes the original brief. These requests need their own discussion about the design, time and price.
For example, asking an artist to review a small pale section of an existing line is a different request from asking them to add flowers around the tattoo. Both are worth discussing, but they may need different bookings.
If you want a larger transformation of an old tattoo, our cover-up consultation guide explains what photographs and information help with that assessment.
Send useful photographs
Take one photograph showing the whole tattoo and another showing the area you want checked. Use even light, keep the image in focus and send it without a filter or edits that alter the appearance.
Include the date of the tattoo, the artist’s name and a short explanation of what you have noticed. If it is part of a project with several sittings, say which session the photograph relates to. You can mark the area on a separate copy while keeping an unmarked image for the artist to review.
For an addition, describe exactly what you want to change. Send a wider photograph if the new work needs to fit around other tattoos.
When should you arrange the appointment?
The studio’s booking instructions ask you to wait until the tattoo is fully healed before a touch-up, and to send a photograph before booking. If you are unsure whether it is ready, contact your artist for advice.
You can raise the question and check eligibility before a session is arranged. Do not interpret the policy window as a deadline to have an unready tattoo worked on. For care questions while it is healing, use our tattoo aftercare guide and contact the studio.
Is a touch-up free at The Viper Pit?
Our published terms say a complimentary touch-up may be offered at the artist’s discretion for small areas within eight weeks. They list exclusions for hands, feet, fingers, sides of fingers and inner lip, and where aftercare was not followed. Design, size and placement changes are not included.
The live touch-up service also excludes additions, work completed elsewhere and damage caused during healing. Ask your artist to confirm what applies to your tattoo and whether there will be a charge before arranging the visit.
Policy details checked on 28 October 2026. Read the current terms and confirm the arrangements with your artist.
What if another studio did the tattoo?
Send a photograph and explain the work you would like assessed. A tattoo completed elsewhere does not qualify for The Viper Pit’s complimentary touch-up service. Any proposed rework or addition needs a separate assessment and quote; do not select the free touch-up booking for it.
Our tattoo consultation guide can help if the project needs a fuller discussion.
Ask your artist before booking
