Thinking about getting a piercing but have a few questions first? You’re not alone. At The Viper Pit Tattoo Studio in Irlam, Salford, we carry out professional body piercings in a clean, licensed studio just minutes from Manchester and the Trafford Centre.
Whether it’s your first piercing or you’re adding to the collection, here are the answers to the most common questions we get asked.
LNot always. We offer walk-in piercings whenever possible, so you can simply pop into the studio. If you're travelling from Manchester, Salford, Warrington or nearby areas, booking ahead online is always recommended to guarantee a time.
No. We only use sterile, single-use piercing needles.
Piercing guns can cause unnecessary trauma to the tissue and are not suitable for many piercings. Professional studios use sterile needles for accuracy, hygiene and safer healing.
Most piercings feel like a quick sharp pinch that lasts a second or two. The anticipation is usually worse than the piercing itself. Pain levels vary depending on the area being pierced and your personal tolerance.
Healing times vary depending on the piercing:
• Earlobe – 6 to 8 weeks
• Cartilage – 3 to 6 months
• Nose – 2 to 4 months
• Other body piercings – varies
Proper aftercare is the biggest factor in healing well.
We use high-quality jewellery designed for fresh piercings. Starter jewellery is selected to allow swelling and promote safe healing. Jewellery upgrades are also available if you want something a bit more stylish.
Age requirements vary depending on the piercing type. Some piercings require parental consent and a parent or guardian present.
We may ask for valid photo ID, so it’s always best to bring identification when visiting the studio.

Proper aftercare is essential. General advice includes:
• Clean the piercing with sterile saline solution
• Avoid touching it with dirty hands
• Do not twist or play with the jewellery
• Avoid swimming in dirty water during early healing
• Follow all aftercare advice provided at the studio
We’ll always explain exactly how to care for your piercing before you leave.

No. Jewellery should stay in place during the initial healing period. Removing or changing jewellery too early can cause irritation, infection or the piercing to close.
