Tattoo Aftercare – Keep Your Ink Looking Amazing
Your tattoo is basically an open wound with a piece of art in it — so let’s look after it properly.
Follow the instructions for the type of wrap you’ve left the studio with.
If your Using Second Skin
Second skin is a thin, breathable adhesive that protects your tattoo while it starts healing.
1. First 24 Hours:
-
Leave the film on. It keeps out bacteria and stops your clothes rubbing.
-
You might see ink and plasma under the wrap — that’s normal.
2. Removing the First Wrap:
-
After 24 hours, gently peel it off under warm running water.
-
Wash the tattoo with fragrance-free, antibacterial soap and pat dry with a clean towel.
3. Second Application (Optional):
-
You can apply a fresh piece of second skin for another 2–3 days if you want.
-
If not rewrapping, skip to moisturising.
4. Moisturising:
-
Use a thin layer of fragrance-free tattoo aftercare cream 2–3 times a day.
-
Don’t overdo it — your tattoo needs to breathe.
5. General Rules:
-
No soaking in baths, swimming, or saunas for at least 2 weeks.
-
Avoid direct sunlight.
-
Don’t pick, scratch, or peel scabs.
If your using cling film
Some tattoos heal better with the good old-fashioned cling film wrap — especially larger or high-friction spots.
1. First 2–4 Hours:
Keep the cling film on for the time we told you in the studio.
This stops bacteria getting in while your tattoo’s still fresh.
2. First Wash:
Carefully remove the film.
Wash with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, antibacterial soap.
Pat dry with a clean towel (no rubbing).
3. Rewrapping (Only if Needed):
You can rewrap with fresh cling film overnight for the first night if the tattoo might rub on sheets or clothing.
In the morning, remove, wash, and leave it uncovered.
4. Moisturising:
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free aftercare cream 2–3 times a day.
Don’t smother it — light layers are best.
5. General Rules:
No swimming, baths, saunas, or heavy sweating on the tattoo for 2 weeks.
Keep it out of the sun until healed.
