What age can a baby have their ears pierced?
Our minimum age is four months. This is our studio policy, not a medical recommendation that every baby should have their ears pierced at that age. Ear piercing is optional, and families can choose to wait.
The American Academy of Pediatrics’ general guidance is to postpone piercing until a child is mature enough to care for the site themselves. For babies, parents take on all of that care. If your child has a medical condition or you are unsure about suitability, speak with their GP or paediatric clinician before booking.
What happens at an infant ear piercing appointment?
A parent or legal guardian stays with their child throughout the visit. There is a consent form to complete, time to discuss the procedure and an opportunity to ask questions before anything goes ahead.
At Little Viper, we use needle-only piercing and careful marking. Our approach includes digital caliper marking, and Chris is DBS checked. These are parts of the service; no piercing method removes every risk or makes the procedure painless.
We allow extra time for infant appointments so parents can discuss the process and aftercare without feeling rushed. You will receive instructions on caring for the piercings before leaving the studio.
How much does baby ear piercing cost?
Our infant ear piercing package costs £65. This includes starter jewellery and the aftercare kit listed on our baby and infant ear piercing service page. Getting ready for the appointment
- Check that your baby meets the four-month minimum age.
- Tell us about relevant medical conditions, medicines or known metal allergies in advance.
- If your baby is unwell, contact us before travelling and seek medical advice where needed.
- Bring your usual baby essentials and allow time to settle your child.
- Ask us about consent paperwork and any documents needed when booking.
- Plan who will handle the daily aftercare at home.
Aftercare is part of the decision
Before booking, consider whether you can give the piercings consistent attention during healing. Read our Little Viper aftercare guide and ask us to explain anything unclear. Follow the written instructions supplied for the jewellery and aftercare product, rather than combining several different online routines.
Avoid jewellery that can easily catch or be pulled. Johns Hopkins Medicine advises against hoops and dangling earrings for babies and children because pulling can injure the earlobe. Ask your piercer when a jewellery change is appropriate for your child’s healing.
When should you seek medical help?
The NHS advises urgent medical help for a suspected infected piercing. Warning signs include increasing swelling or pain, heat, marked redness or darkening of the skin, pus, or feeling unwell. If you suspect infection in your baby’s piercing, request an urgent GP appointment or call NHS 111.
Do not remove the jewellery for a suspected infection unless a doctor tells you to. The studio can help with routine jewellery and aftercare questions, but suspected infection needs medical assessment.
