Booking your first piercing can leave you with a surprisingly long list of small questions. Do you need ID? Which appointment should you choose? What if you are nervous, or you are travelling to the studio specifically for the visit?
This practical checklist is for anyone preparing for a piercing appointment at The Viper Pit in Irlam. It focuses on what to check and bring before you set off, so you can spend your appointment discussing the piercing rather than sorting out missing details.
Your quick piercing appointment checklist
- Check the correct piercing service, date and time.
- Read the service’s age, identification and consent requirements.
- Bring valid photo ID; ask the studio beforehand if you are unsure what is suitable.
- Keep your booking confirmation handy.
- Wear comfortable clothing that gives access to the area.
- Make a note of questions about placement, jewellery and aftercare.
- Contact the studio before travelling if you need to confirm piercer availability or have a particular requirement.
1. Choose the right appointment before booking
Start with the name of the piercing, not just the jewellery you want to wear. One lobe and two lobes are different bookings, and a nostril piercing is different from a septum piercing. If you do not know the name, describe where you want it or send a reference picture through our contact page.
A booking is not a guarantee that every placement will be suitable. Your piercer needs to assess the area and discuss the options. This is especially important for anatomy-dependent placements such as a scaffold, rook or navel piercing.
For ear ideas, use our ear piercing placement and styling guide as a starting point, then ask what works for your ear rather than assuming a photograph can be copied exactly.
2. Check ID and consent before you leave home
The Viper Pit may ask for valid photo ID. Age and consent requirements vary by piercing, so read the individual service description and contact the studio if anything is unclear. Do not assume that the requirements for an earlobe apply to every other placement.
If the appointment is for someone under 18, confirm whether a parent or legal guardian must attend and what identification is needed. Ask before booking if your documents or circumstances are unusual; a message in advance is more useful than discovering a problem at the appointment.
Little Viper baby and infant appointments have their own instructions, including bringing the child’s Red Book and attendance by a parent or legal guardian. See the Little Viper information page rather than treating a young child’s visit as a standard adult booking.
3. Keep the confirmation and service details handy
Have your confirmation available on your phone so you can check the service, date and time. Read any appointment instructions and contact the studio if you have selected the wrong piercing or need to change the booking.
If you are hoping to walk in, check first. Walk-ins are subject to availability, and general studio opening hours do not mean a piercer is available at every moment. This matters particularly if you are making a special trip from Urmston, Eccles, Salford or the Trafford Centre.
Our piercing booking page links to the live calendar and explains the appointment process.
4. Think about clothing and everyday equipment
Choose something comfortable that allows the area to be reached without unnecessary fuss. For an ear piercing, think about how your hair, glasses, headphones or helmet sit around that part of the ear. For a body piercing, consider where waistbands or other clothing normally rest.
These are useful things to mention during the discussion, not reasons to choose a placement yourself without advice. If work, school, sport or protective equipment creates a practical restriction, tell the piercer before agreeing the plan.
If you have a holiday, swimming plans or an event coming up, ask about timing before booking. Do not assume that a new piercing can be removed or its jewellery swapped to fit a particular occasion.
5. Bring your questions, not a fixed jewellery plan
Reference pictures can show the look you like, but starter jewellery needs to suit the piercing and your anatomy. The studio’s listed piercing services include suitable starter jewellery and aftercare guidance. Ask about the options before deciding what you want to wear later.
For example, if your aim is a nose hoop, read our stud-or-hoop guide for a new nose piercing and discuss the starting jewellery with the piercer. A finished look in a photograph is not necessarily the right starting point for a fresh piercing.
6. Say if you are nervous or need something explained
You do not have to arrive pretending you have done this before. Tell the piercer if it is your first appointment or if you are worried about part of the process. Ask for an explanation of the placement, jewellery or next step before agreeing to proceed.
If you need a particular adjustment or want to bring someone for support, ask the studio in advance so arrangements can be discussed. Complete the consent information accurately and raise relevant health concerns privately. For medical questions, seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional rather than relying on a general blog post.
7. Know what to ask before you leave
Make sure you understand the aftercare instructions, how to contact the studio, and whether a jewellery check or later fitting appointment is recommended for your piercing. Ask where to find the written guidance so you can refer back to it.
The Viper Pit piercing aftercare guide is there for reference; your piercer can explain the advice relevant to your placement.
